Centrestage drama company

Centrestage is a Drama Education Company based in Peebles in the Scottish Borders.

It is run by Douglas Roberts, a playwright and drama educator who has worked in drama education for over 20 years. We offer courses and workshops in drama and theatre skills for adults, children and young people.

Drama is fundamental to good education. The experience of drama and theatre helps children and young people develop initiative, self-confidence, presentation skills, self-expression, creative thinking and a sense of fun that lasts throughout their lives.

Centrestage has provided drama courses for children and young people in the Scottish Borders since 1999. We also provide specialist workshops in theatre lighting and sound, video editing, stop-motion animation, scenery construction and digital sound processing.

Centrestage was in hibernation between 2004 and 2008 while Douglas and his family travelled to New Zealand, where he was Drama Education Adviser at Auckland University and ran StageDoor Theatre on Auckland’s North Shore.

Centrestage resumed its theatre activities in 2009 with two Summer Holiday drama courses at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles. Earlier this year we completed several courses of workshops at the Eastgate Theatre between January and March 2011.

In the summer term of 2010 we undertook a nine-week Technical Theatre course which culminated in an evening presentation of three stories told through lighting, sound, projection and live performance.

Our Wednesday Junior Drama classes continue next term at the Eastgate Theatre. For details click here.
